Wonderful vintage hand-carved wooden Laughing Buddha (Budai) figure featuring an unusual and expressive raised-arms pose. This substantial carved figure measures approximately 10” tall x 4” wide x 3.5” deep. It is carved in the round with detailing continuing around the back, including flowing robes, elongated earlobes, beaded necklace, expressive smiling face, large belly, hands, and feet. The wood has a rich reddish-brown finish with an attractive aged appearance. The raised-arm pose gives this Budai tremendous personality and makes it an especially interesting display piece for a collection of Asian decorative arts, carved wooden figures, or vintage décor. Condition: Vintage preowned condition with surface wear, scratches, and other signs of age/use. There are losses/damage to several fingers on the raised hands, which are clearly shown in the photographs. Felt pads have been applied underneath the feet.
