This backstamp appears to belong to a vintage ceramic piece made by the Edwin M. Knowles China Co., likely manufactured around December 1948 based on the "48 12" date code. No chips noted. There are 2 small superficial cracks I. The back - see pics. It has lots of beautiful crazing!! There are some specks that feel to be indented into the ceramic, possibly during manufacturing.
