Beautiful antique Art Deco brooch featuring a substantial rectangular step-cut lavender amethyst surrounded by intricate sterling silver openwork and sparkling marcasite accents. The center stone measures approximately  14 × 8.6 × 5.1 mm  and displays visible internal characteristics/inclusions consistent with natural quartz. It has also been tested with a Presidium gem tester and registers in the amethyst range. (Substantial amethyst measuring approximately 14 × 8.6 × 5.1 mm, estimated at approximately 4–5 carats based on mounted dimensions. Stone has not been removed from its original setting for weighing.) The contrast is wonderful—the strong geometric lines of the large pale-purple stone are softened by delicate floral and scrolling silver work characteristic of the Art Deco period. The metal has been  acid tested as sterling silver  and retains an attractive dark antique patina that emphasizes the detail.
