Stanley Bailey No. 27½ Transitional Jack Plane – Antique, Pre-1920 This is a genuine Stanley Bailey No. 27½ transitional jack plane in excellent condition for its age. Stamped on the toe: BAILEY / STANLEY RULE AND LEVEL CO. / No. 27½ with patent date 6-9-12. The "Stanley Rule and Level Co." name dates this plane to pre-1920, making it a genuine antique. The 27½ features a wider 2¼" iron than the standard No. 27, set in a full Bailey-pattern metal frog with working depth adjustment and lateral adjustment lever. The wooden body is solid with no cracks. Original knob and tote intact. Blade stamped STANLEY NEW BRITAIN CONN USA. Transitional planes combine the smooth glide of a wooden sole with the precision of Bailey-pattern iron adjustment — preferred by many hand tool woodworkers over all-iron planes for certain work.
