Up for sale is a beautiful, highly collectible rare antique pint-sized "Mason's Patent Nov 30th 1858" fruit jar featuring the iconic Hero Cross emblem. It features the standard, correct spelling layout with the Maltese-style Hero Cross positioned perfectly in the center between the "Mason's" and "Patent" embossing lines. Up for sale is a beautiful, highly collectible rare antique pint-sized "Mason's Patent Nov 30th 1858" fruit jar featuring the iconic Hero Cross emblem. This is a choice specimen that ticks every box for a discerning antique bottle and jar collector. HISTORICAL CORRELATION & MAKER: This jar was manufactured by the Hero Fruit Jar Company between 1880 and 1900. It features the standard, correct spelling layout with the Maltese-style Hero Cross positioned perfectly in the center between the "Mason's" and "Patent" embossing lines. Larger space in the center of Mason’s between the S and O is evident. BASE MARKINGS: The base features a crisp, circular embossed patent mark reading "PAT NOV 26 67" surrounding a prominent mold cavity number "55" stamped dead-center. LIP & MANUFACTURING CHARACTERISTICS: This is an authentic, true pre-1900 mold-blown jar. It features a beautifully distinct, manually ground lip (rough, frosted top rim) showing the characteristic minor factory roughness from the grinding wheel, but entirely free of deep post-production damage. The vertical mold side seams run cleanly up the body, but are not evident on base. GLASS CHARACTER: The glass is a vibrant, clean light aqua color with excellent clarity. It boasts fantastic character, including a highly visible, large teardrop-shaped air bubble trapped near the shoulder, along with several smaller seed bubbles scattered throughout the body. LID ASSEMBLY: Zinc Lid Closure: Comes complete with its period-correct unbranded zinc screw cap. The zinc flange is rolled tight and holds the liner perfectly secure. Inside, the original opaque white milk-glass liner is fully intact and clean. The interior features a flawless, uncracked Boyd white milk glass liner with its original structural concentric rings. The liner is an unlisted variant embossed with the text: "Genuine Boyd Cap" on top and "For Mason Jar" on the bottom. CONDITION REPORT: Excellent, clean antique condition overall. The glass has no cracks, bruises, flashes, or distracting sickness/hazing. The embossing is strong and sharp. Fully intact manually ground lip with typical light factory flaking, no major chips, cracks, or bruises. Clear aqua glass with gorgeous, “seed” air bubbles through out. Includes period-correct zinc cap with an intact, clean, blank-center white milk-glass liner reading "Genuine Boyd Cap For Mason Jar." The zinc lid retains a wonderful, untouched gray antique patina with light, authentic age-related surface oxidation—never chemically stripped or polished. This jar was my Great, Great Grandmothers and was gently used for generations to help preserve food grown in her garden to feed our family, so please be assured of its authentic provenance!
