View Antique Nippon Floral Porcelain Demitasse Cup & Saucer Set 4 Feet Japan No Mark with current marketplace pricing, condition, product images and item details. I believe it is an outlined transfer design applied, and hand painted to fill in the colors. The satin sheen back ground is a creamy white, hand painted on the saucer and the outside of the cup. The porcelain of this set is so lightweight, yet sturdy, both pieces weigh only 4.5 ounces! This is a very pretty antique porcelain demitasse cup and saucer set, with no back stamp, mostly likely made Japan, decorated with pink, white and orange flowers with veining and accents in gold. I believe it is an outlined transfer design applied, and hand painted to fill in the colors. The satin sheen back ground is a creamy white, hand painted on the saucer and the outside of the cup. Looking closely I can see the brushstrokes in the cream, and some brush strokes and a bit pooling of the paint on the flower petals. The shape of the cup and saucer is unusual too, with a bit of fluting. It has four feet, that scroll into a ball at the ends, with a geometric and angular handle. There was gold painted on the edges, feet and handle, but there is significant age related gold loss there. The porcelain is in excellent antique condition with no chips, cracks, or hairline cracks when inspected under high-lumen light. The floral design is also in excellent condition, with little wear to it. The inside of the cup and underside of the saucer is a bright glossy glazed white. Looking at an angle to the light, I can see faint, specks of kiln dust in the glaze on the underside of the saucer and a bit on the inside of the cup. The kiln dust is from the wood-fired manufacturing process and heating of the kiln. Later when coal was used, the kiln dust would usually be tiny black specks, although they could be bigger than specks! There is no manufacturer mark, but the style is Nippon and was most likely made between 1891 and 1921. The McKinley Act of 1891, required pieces to be marked with the country of origin, which these do not have. It is possible they were made prior to 1891, and so were not marked at all, or were made and marked with a gold, or other color back stamp, which has washed away with time. The cup is 2 inches tall, 2 & 7/8 inches in diameter and holds 1/4 cup easily, 1/3 cup to the very top. The saucer is 4 & 3/4 inches in diameter. The porcelain of this set is so lightweight, yet sturdy, both pieces weigh only 4.5 ounces!
