Vintage handmade studio pottery ikebana floral arranger / flower frog / ceramic vase with an unusual sculptural form, earthy stoneware glaze and unidentified artist mark. This beautiful one-piece studio pottery vessel measures approximately 4" diameter x 3 1/8" tall. The raised upper section features six organically shaped openings designed to hold and position flower stems, making it an excellent ikebana-style floral arranger, flower frog or sculptural floral vessel. The lower body is warm tan/brown speckled stoneware with natural glaze variation and an earthy, organic appearance. The upper section has a dark charcoal/black glaze with an attractive contrast against the lighter clay body. The underside features an impressed floral/symbol mark as well as a separate black painted/stylized artist mark. The maker has not been definitively identified, so this piece is being sold as UNKNOWN ARTIST STUDIO POTTERY. The marks are photographed clearly for collectors who may recognize the maker. The design has the minimalist, asymmetrical and nature-focused aesthetic associated with ikebana and Japanese-inspired floral arranging, although Japanese manufacture has NOT been established. A wonderful piece for collectors of studio pottery, art pottery, handmade ceramics, stoneware, ikebana vessels, flower frogs, floral arrangers, sculptural ceramics, Japanese-inspired décor, wabi-sabi interiors and organic modern design.
