According to the owner, he acquired this necklace in Tanzania approximately 10 years ago with the assistance of a local gemstone buyer connected with a market where tanzanite and other gemstones were bought and sold. Unlike purchasing a loose stone and having it mounted later, the tanzanite was already set in this sterling silver necklace when he acquired it , and the necklace remains in that setting today. The owner recalls personally paying approximately $400+ USD for the necklace at the time. According to him, the purchase price was primarily for the tanzanite itself rather than the sterling silver setting . The stone could also be professionally removed and reset into a gold or other precious-metal setting by a qualified jeweler if the new owner desires.
