Vintage Gold Cloisonné Enamel Christmas Ornament - Butterfly & Floral Design** Up for sale is a gorgeous vintage round Cloisonné enamel Christmas tree ornament. This piece features a striking gold-foil-toned background intricately detailed with metallic wire filigree work, vibrant multicolored butterflies (shades of blue and purple), and delicate floral blooms. Original red presentation/storage box as shown in photos The Metal Base: A hollow copper or brass metal sphere is formed to create the ornament's lightweight structure. Filigree Wirework (Cloisons): An artisan bends very thin, flat metallic ribbons or wires into the distinct shapes of the butterflies, flower petals, and spiral backgrounds. These wires are carefully glued or soldered edgewise onto the metal sphere to form individual cells or compartments ("cloisons" in French).Enamel Paste Packing: Each tiny compartment is meticulously hand-filled with a paste made of colored vitreous glass powder mixed with water. Kiln Firing: The ornament is fired in a high-temperature kiln. The extreme heat melts the glass powder into a hard, glossy enamel layer. Because enamel shrinks when fired, the process of packing paste and firing is repeated multiple times to fill the cells completely. Polishing: Once the final firing layer is complete, the surface is ground smooth and polished extensively until the metal wire partitions flush perfectly with the glass inlay.
