When open it reveals an ornate purple velvet decorative panel on one side and a portrait of a distinguished gentleman (perhaps a US diplomat) in his suit on the other. It is under glass, has an ornate brass frame, and removes. Both lids with matching scene - ladies and a dog. The photograph was taken in the atelier of L. Gouy St.Petersbourg, Perspective de la Liteine, 54 (active 1864-1872). Condition: excellent preserved, closure works fine.
