The Chevron Bead originated in Italy. The first examples were 7 layer beads and later approximately in the 1700's were manufactured in the much more common 6 layer beads. Some were 4 layer. They are blown glass and shaped by grinding into the wonderful shapes we see today. Several countries make chevron beads but beads such as India Chevrons typically do not have the sharp points in the star layers.
