To make this a smooth and pleasant transaction experience for everyone, all buyers need to read and understand the Description, Terms of Sale, Payment, and Shipping, below. ​ This exceptional and highly collectible pair of genuine antique earrings dates from the late 1910s to early 1920s.  Original antique pools of light earrings are scarce, as the ones found today are usually created with both old and new components, which is why I am excited to offer this completely original pair.   These earrings feature spheres of undrilled rock crystal quartz.  In antique jewelry, a true "Pool of Light" is never drilled because ancient Asian and Western traditions held that drilling a crystal would break its mystical energy and release its good luck.  Instead, the orbs are wrapped or banded in sterling silver wire or floral frameworks. The minimalist wire orb frame is from the "pool of light" early era.  Wrapping the sphere in a plain unadorned silver wire was a deliberate design choice.  Because rock crystal quartz acts as a natural magnifying glass, an intricate or thick casing would distort the light path.  By using a simple, sleek wire band, the German silversmiths allowed the orbs to glow cleanly, absorbing and refracting the color of whatever outfit you wear underneath them. While the orb frame is simple, the three-section, articulated dangle portion represents early Art Deco structure.  Each tier is connected by a tiny, hidden silver loop.  This architecture was explicitly designed so that as you walk, turn your head, or talk, the segments sway independently, causing the bedded marcasites to capture light from multiple angles simultaneously. This specific structural layout—a minimalist wire band encasing the quartz paired with an ornate, three-tiered dangling body filled with marcasites—is the ultimate signature of top-tier German craftsmanship from this period. Each "arm" of the screw-back hardware is stamped "STERLING" and "GERMANY," although only partial words made it onto the thin silver piece. I bought this pair from the descendant, a woman of about 90-years-old, of the original owner.  She said they belonged to her mother. Condition:  Excellent!  I intentionally left the dark patina on.
