ABALONE SHELL & PEARL ORMOLU EARRINGS One pair of Mid-century Modern earrings from my mother’s estate dating back to the early 1950s. Research did not find another pair like them presently for sale online or recently sold. They are hand-built using abalone, mother of pearl, silver beads, and seed pearls mounted on Ormolu gold-tone bases. Measuring 1” in diameter by 1” thick (including the clip-ons). Both are in nice vintage condition with only minor wear to one earring (not so much on the other) and some of the pearls. These issues can and should be overlooked, given the age, workmanship, and scarcity of the design. None of this is obvious when the earrings are being worn. They would benefit from a thorough cleaning but they are fine without one. I leave this decision to the new owner. Nothing beats quality costume jewelry from this era for workmanship and design.
