Beautiful Nicaraguan art pottery vessel in the style associated with San Juan de Oriente, a community renowned for its ceramic traditions. This substantial low, wide vessel features a dark black/charcoal burnished surface with gorgeous blue-teal mottling and elaborate hand-incised sgraffito decoration. This substantial low, wide vessel features a dark black/charcoal burnished surface with gorgeous blue-teal mottling and elaborate hand-incised sgraffito decoration. The design incorporates highly stylized human/figural, bird or animal, botanical and geometric imagery reminiscent of Central American and pre-Columbian-inspired motifs.   Measures approximately 10¼” in diameter and approximately 5” high.   Excellent displayed condition with no chips or cracks noted. The underside shows some surface irregularities, remnants/marks and a small scuffed area as photographed. These are confined to the underside and do not detract from display.
