Coats’ Spool Cotton.” The cup incorporates an unusual built-in porcelain mustache guard across the interior. Mustache cups became popular during the Victorian era as a way for gentlemen to drink hot beverages without soaking or staining a carefully groomed mustache. The exterior features multiple period scenes associated with J. & P. Coats advertising, along with an ornate sculptural handle and delicate gold-tone trim around the rim and mustache guard.
