The mug has a built in porcelain piece that would keep the hot liquid of the mug away from the drinkers magnificent mustache. This is an antique MUSTACHE MUG FROM THE VICTORIAN ERA! A great find for a collector, or a friend with a Mustache ! This is an antique MUSTACHE MUG FROM THE VICTORIAN ERA! The mug has a built in porcelain piece that would keep the hot liquid of the mug away from the drinkers magnificent mustache  The mustaches were in elaborate shapes and held in place with wax, and any hot liquid would melt the wax causing the mustache to wilt and loose its shape! This mug says “ From A Friend” on the side, which is typical of the sentimental mindset of the Victorians There are embossed designs around the bottom and rim of the mug The top is outlined in gold, and the bottom has been painted in pink, but only on the front of the mug The bottom of the mug has a large reddish brown circle that says MADE IN GERMANY My internet research places this in the early 1900s, but that is just an educated guess  A great find for a collector , or a friend with a Mustache !
