Thank you for your interest in this authentic antique real photo POSTCARD of Buffalo Soldiers (African American soldiers) of the 10th Cavalry Regiment captured at the Battle of Carrizal in 1916 during the Mexican Revolution. This occurred during the U.S. Army's Punitive Expedition, which was launched in an attempt to capture or kill Pancho Villa, a Mexican revolutionary leader. Along with the authentic image on the front of the card, there is also a message on the back written by an infantry soldier at Camp Cotton near El Paso, Texas, to his mother. The postmark is dated July 10, 1916, which would have been less than a month after the Battle of Carrizal began. This postcard likely falls under the black Americana category as well as militaria.
