Born in Terai (now Nomi City), the historic Kutani ware region , Yamagishi began his formal ceramic training at the Ishikawa Prefectural Industrial Arts Research Institute . He later studied under Tsuyoshi Yamakawa and Fujio Kitade , two influential figures in modern Japanese ceramics.
