This is an amazing pair of beautiful and striking Blue Mojave Turquoise earrings. They feature gorgeous flashing gold and blue teardrops held by simple sterling silver frame and prong settings. The addition of the secure sterling silver Russian Locks (a type of lever back earring closure) finishes off the clean aesthetic.  Blue Mohave (Mojave) is what is known as a composite stone: it is made with real Kingman turquoise chips combined with other materials such as gold and copper pyrite and clear fixatives. Large thick blocks are formed in molds and then cut and carved like any other gemstone and are then worked into authentic tribal pieces or used by studio artisans. Other colors you might hear about that are composite turquoise include cotton candy and purple dahlia. Measurements: The drops measure approximately 1 and 1/2 inches from the top of the lever back. The cabochons are 1/2 inch wide. They weigh a comfortable 14 grams on my scale.  Hallmarks: The earrings are marked 925 for sterling silver. No artist or designer mark is evident. Condition: READ!  One cabochon is slightly longer than the other, but when worn, it is indistinguishable from the other. This longer one extends about 1/8 inches over the edge of the sterling setting, but is completely secure. One of cabs has a layer of gold fixative across the bottom. It looks as though in the making of the composite (the copper pyrite and Kingman stones), there was more fixative on the bottom of the block. The Russian Locks (lever backs) work well and shut securely. No damage to the stones that I can see. Important INFO: This auction is for the item{s] in the listing and description.
