Materials and technique. This cuff isn’t marked for silver content but I guarantee it as Sterling. It features a flower-head pattern with a round central stone surrounded by a row of eight stones finished off with a final outer ring of 16 stones. The flanking pieces on the side remind me of an animal with splayed ears. The recessed areas were deliberately darkened to give the piece depth and better set off the turquoise. The plates are soldered to a three-wire cuff—a form common in Native American jewelry. Measurements and dimensions. This cuff is an inch and three-quarters wide at the highest point. It weighs 36 grams on my scale. It’s a size 6.25 on my bracelet mandrel. There currently is a one-inch gap between the bracelet terminals. This cuff could be gently sized up or down by a quarter size; I would recommend doing so just once. About the artist. Running Bear is a brand and shop mark for a New Mexico retail store now owned by Chaco Canyon Trading. The shop was founded by Jerry Elkins in the 1970s; his daughter carries on the business now. Shops like this pay Native artisans for piece work and either wholesale the finished product or sell through their storefront. Sometimes it’s possible to identify the individual artist who created a particular piece. I don't know the name of the artist who made this; several silversmiths may have executed this design over time. It appears to be more commonly found in blue turquoise than green.
