View VINTAGE SOLID STERLING SILVER 3.3 g ORTHODOX CROSS CRUCIFIX “SAVE and PROTECT” with current marketplace pricing, condition, product images and item details. (1 5/8" tall with bale loop and jump ring, ~ 1 3/8” tall without the ring; weight approx. 3.3 g) Crucifix pendant featuring a Slavonic Orthodox “budded” design with image of the Crucified Savior over the skull with crossbones (Adam's head) and the traditional Orthodox "Protection" prayer on the reverse. Vintage solid sterling silver medium-sized and sturdy (approx. 1 5/8" tall with bale loop and jump ring, ~ 1 3/8” tall without the ring; weight approx. 3.3 g) Crucifix pendant featuring a Slavonic Orthodox “budded” design with image of the Crucified Savior over the skull with crossbones (Adam's head) and the traditional Orthodox "Protection" prayer on the reverse. The large soldered jump ring bears the "925" print indicating the "sterling" purity. It has been confirmed for the pendant using the silver acid test. The item has visual vintage appearance with signs of aging and wear that might include diminished quality of the artwork, deformations of its original shape, scratches, dents, and patches of discoloration/dark patina. The size and weight of the item are shown on the photographs for this listing.   The obverse bears an image of the Crucifixion recreated according to the ancient Orthodox iconographic tradition. The Savior’s Cross is framed with floral ornament traditionally representing the sprouting vine, an attribute of the Holy Precious and Life-Giving Cross. It might symbolize the life-giving power of the Savior’s Cross, and also refer to the preaching of Christ: "I am the vine; you are the branches" (John 15:5). The Savior is depicted with His feet uncrossed and with round halo around His head. There is a small scroll representing the "INRI" nameplate inscribed using a Cyrillic transliteration as "IHЦI" just above Christ’s head.  The top "budded" end of the vertical crossbar of the pendant shows a Church Slavonic monogram "ЦC" meaning "King of Glory", a traditional part of the Orthodox title of Jesus inscribed on the Savior's Cross . The left and right side budded ends of the horizontal crossbar bear the Sacred Name of Jesus Christ inscribed as the "IC XC" Greek Christogram, the "IC" on the left, and the "XC" on the right. A symbolic image of the skull with crossbones, or Adam's head, below the Savior's Cross refers to Golgotha (Calvary), the elevated site where Jesus was crucified, which the Bible says means "the place of the skull" in Hebrew.  According to ancient tradition of the Church, it was also the burial place of the first man, Adam.  The reverse bears an inscription of the traditional Slavonic Orthodox "Protection" prayer meaning "Save and Protect". The prayer reminds us that Christ the Savior is with us to save and protect a person wearing the cross from every evil and from all enemies visible and invisible.   Please examine all photographs carefully and do your own research if necessary.
