This mug is made of grayish stoneware with a salt glaze and glossy cobalt blue decoration. Historically Inspired Williamsburg Souvenir Tavern Mug This is a large mug that measures approximately 4 1/4" tall and 3 1/2" across the base. It holds a maximum of 1 pint(16oz), or about 14oz at the first line. It weighs a little under a pound.  This mug is made of grayish stoneware with a salt glaze and glossy cobalt blue decoration. This piece appears to have been made in a mold and then hand decorated with an incised and hand painted "Oak Leaf" design. The bottom has an oval shaped stamp that reads, "An Approved Williamsburg Souvenir". From the Collonial Williamsburg Shops website: "This design was inspired by a salt-glazed stoneware tankard excavated at the Anthony Hay House site.   Interpreted from eighteenth-century Rhenish fragments uncovered in Williamsburg, these mugs feature an incised cobalt blue design. These German mugs were made for export to England and her colonies where they were used to hold beer and ale." This is a pre owned mug in  Great Condition.
