View VTG/ANTIQUE SOLID STERLING SILVER RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CROSS CRUCIFIX “SAVE PROTECT" with current marketplace pricing, condition, product images and item details. (1 3/16" tall with bale loop and jump ring, ~ 15/16” tall without the ring; weight approx. 1.3-1.4 g) Crucifix pendant featuring a Slavonic Orthodox "budded" design with a symbol of the Holy Trinity depicted above the Crucified Savior, whereas the reverse displays the traditional Orthodox "Protection" prayer. Vintage or antique solid sterling silver smaller but sturdy (approx. 1 3/16" tall with bale loop and jump ring, ~ 15/16” tall without the ring; weight approx. 1.3-1.4 g) Crucifix pendant featuring a Slavonic Orthodox "budded" design with a symbol of the Holy Trinity depicted above the Crucified Savior, whereas the reverse displays the traditional Orthodox "Protection" prayer. The bottom cross arm of the Savior’s Cross is decorated with floral, vine-shaped ornament symbolizing its life-giving power, and also referring to the preaching of Christ: "I am the vine; you are the branches" (John 15:5). The large soldered jump ring of the pendant bears two punch marks, one of which displays the "925" hallmark indicating the "sterling" purity. Next to the "925" print, there is the "Kokoshnik" official assay mark of Russia (highlighted on a picture). The mark appears as a tiny profile of a woman's head with a Russian head dress named "Kokoshnik". It has been confirmed for the pendant using the silver acid test. The item has visual antique appearance with many signs of aging and wear that might include diminished quality of the artwork, deformations of its original shape, multiple scratches and small dents, and patches of discoloration/patina. The necklace bale loop and ring show signs of wear consistent with many years of continuous wearing of the pendant. The size and weight of the item are shown on the photographs for this listing. The obverse displays an image of the Crucifixion according to the 19th - early 20th century Orthodox iconographic tradition. The Savior is depicted with His feet uncrossed and with round halo around His head. The top "budded" end of the vertical crossbar just above Christ's head displays a large symbolic image of an eye inside the triangle emitting rays of light, a traditional symbol of God in the Holy Trinity that was used on Russian crosses since the 18th century (please see the last picture for a reference). The left and right budded ends of the horizontal crossbar bear Sacred Name of Jesus Christ inscribed as the "IC XC" Greek Christogram, the "IC" on the left, and the "XC" on the right.   The reverse bears an inscription of the traditional Slavonic Orthodox "Protection" prayer meaning "Save and Protect". The prayer reminds us that Christ the Savior is with us to save and protect a person wearing the cross from every evil and from all enemies visible and invisible.   Please examine all photographs carefully and do your own research if necessary.
