His accomplishments included exhibitions at major Japanese lacquer art exhibitions, participation in the Chicago World's Fair, and international exhibitions in Canada and the Netherlands. He received awards at the Japan Lacquer Art Exhibition and was honored with the Third Prize at the Ministry of International Trade and Industry Craft Art Exhibition. Shimada was also selected as a Preserver of Traditional Craft Techniques by the Ministry of Education and was commissioned by the Imperial Household Agency of Japan.
