An 1880s antique German Mettlach "Tapestry Student" beer stein with original fancy pewter hinged lid...it is mold number 1643 and has a raised tapestry on front with colorful student drinking from a stein..German inscription on back raised tapestry.. .......impressed abbey with VILLEROY & BOCH PATENT METTLACH  ...also with 1643 and 85 impressed on bottom...4 1/4"tall....6 1/4"tall to top of pewter thumblift...It has as hard to see 2 1/2"crack running down from rim on back neaer handle; no other damage.
