Antique French Louis XVI Japy Frères Bronze & Sèvres Porcelain Mantel Clock, c.1860 A remarkable 19th-century French mantel clock by the renowned Japy Frères, crafted around 1860 in an ornate Louis XVI revival style. This highly decorative antique combines finely cast bronze, romantic Sèvres-style porcelain plaques, and a quality mechanical movement, creating an elegant focal point for a mantel, console, library, or collector’s interior. The clock is richly designed with neoclassical ornament throughout. Its sculptural bronze case features scrolling acanthus leaves, floral garlands, laurel details, and two charming putti figures above the dial. One cherub is shown reading, while the other holds a torch, giving the piece a poetic and intellectual character typical of French decorative arts from the Napoleon III period. The front and base are decorated with hand-painted Sèvres-style porcelain panels in deep cobalt blue, soft rose tones, and gilt accents. These porcelain scenes add colour and refinement to the warm bronze patina, making this clock both a functional timepiece and a substantial decorative artwork.
