Solid sterling silver medium-sized but thick and sturdy (approx. 1 7/16" tall with bale loop and jump ring, ~ 1 1/8” without the ring; weight approx. 3.4 g) Orthodox Crucifix pendant featuring a Slavonic Orthodox ornate design with a high-relief image of the Crucified Savior over the skull (Adam’s head). The reverse displays the traditional Orthodox "Protection" prayer with a vine ornament. The large soldered jump ring of the pendant bears two punch marks, one of which displays the "925" hallmark indicating the "sterling" purity. It has been confirmed for the pendant using the silver acid test. Next to the “925” print, there is the "Tryzub" (Trident) official assay mark of Ukraine (highlighted on a picture). The item has visual vintage appearance with few signs of aging and wear that might include diminished quality of the artwork, deformations of its original shape, scratches, dents, missing small fragments of enamel, and patches of discoloration/patina. The size and weight of the item are shown on the photographs for this listing.   The obverse bears an image of the Crucifixion recreated according to the ancient Orthodox iconographic tradition. Christ’s feet are uncrossed, and His head is crowned with large halo filled with symbolic rays of light. The Savior is depicted crucified on the three-bar Suppedaneum cross that is venerated as the True Savior's Cross in the Slavonic Orthodox and some Eastern Catholic churches. Such a cross has three horizontal crossbeams: the top one represents the "INRI" nameplate made in Cyrillic transliteration as "IНЦI" on this Cross, and the bottom one, a footrest. The footrest crossbeam is depicted pointing up, toward Heaven, on Christ's right hand side where the Penitent thief, St. Dismas was crucified.  The top wider end of the vertical crossbar of the pendant shows a Church Slavonic monogram "ЦC" meaning "King of Glory", a traditional part of the Orthodox title of Jesus inscribed on the Savior's Cross . The left and right side wider ends of the horizontal crossbar bear the Sacred Name of Jesus Christ inscribed as the "IC XC" Greek Christogram, the "IC" on the left, and the "XC" on the right. A symbolic image of the skull, or Adam's head, buried in a cave below the Savior's Cross refers to Golgotha (Calvary), the elevated site where Jesus was crucified, which the Bible says means "the place of the skull" in Hebrew. The skull is marked with two larger Cyrillic letters, "Г" and "A" next to it, an abbreviation meaning "Head of Adam". According to ancient tradition of the Church, it was also the burial place of the first man, Adam, thus symbolizing Christ’s victory over sin and death achieved on the Cross. The reverse displays Church Slavonic words of the Orthodox prayer traditionally inscribed on the reverse of body (Baptism) cross pendants meaning "Save and protect". The prayer reminds us that Christ the Savior has the power to save and protect a person wearing the cross from every evil and from all enemies visible and invisible. The vertical crossbar is filled with a vine-like motif that might symbolize the life-giving power of the Holy Cross and refer to the preaching of Christ: "I am the vine; you are the branches" (John 15:5).
