The design is really unique, as it combines the classical amphora vase shape with a mid century brutalist volcanic gravel texture. 6”x10”. 50-60’s era? Let me just start by saying I can’t find any comparable vases, and it doesn’t have any identifying marks, so I’m not totally positive about the following info! But I believe it to be a mid century era, Mediterranean studio pottery piece, likely from Greece. The design is really unique, as it combines the classical amphora vase shape with a mid century brutalist volcanic gravel texture. Enamel paint (in primary colors) was swirled over the surface to add to the mid century feel, almost in a Jackson Pollock style. Does not have any chips, cracks, repairs, major damage. No signature, sticker or tag. *NOTE* - Going into the neck of the vase (inside), they did not carefully apply the black (unsure if it is paint or glaze), so some naked clay is visible. - in the photo, the black surface on opening of vase is a little grey/cloudy looking. However that was accentuated with my light and was mainly dust (I’ve cleaned it since), doesn’t look like that to the naked eye! Condition: Used.
