Commissioned by Chicago distributor Marshall-Burns and manufactured by the famous Western Stoneware Company in Monmouth, Illinois, these heavy-duty dishes were famously distributed as supermarket "premiums" in the 1950s and 1960s. Grocery shoppers at chains like Safeway and A&P would save stamps to collect this incredibly durable, everyday kitchenware. Crafted from heavy Midwestern clay and fired at exceptionally high temperatures, it features the iconic, glossy "Warm Colorado Brown" glaze. The high-pressure mold process creates an embossed daisy, dot, and scalloped rim where the glaze thins slightly over the high points, beautifully highlighting the relief design.
