View Vintage German Mercury Glass Basket of Roses Figural Christmas Ornament 1940’s with current marketplace pricing, condition, product images and item details. The flowers retain shades of deep pink/red with bright green foliage, while yellow-gold twisted rope-style borders accent the upper and lower edges of the pearly white/silvered basket. No maker or country marking is present, so I am intentionally not attributing it to a specific German manufacturer or glassmaking town. Beautiful vintage German mold-blown glass Christmas ornament in the form of a  basket filled with dimensional roses , dating approximately to the  late 1940s–early 1950s . This charming figural ornament features a wonderfully detailed molded basket-weave body topped by large raised roses. The flowers retain shades of deep pink/red with bright green foliage, while yellow-gold twisted rope-style borders accent the upper and lower edges of the pearly white/silvered basket. The entire design is formed in the glass rather than simply painted onto a plain ornament. Individual rose petals, leaves, twisted borders and the woven texture of the basket are all crisply molded, giving the ornament considerable dimension despite its small size. The ornament is constructed from  thin mold-blown glass with internal silvering , the type of construction commonly referred to by collectors as mercury glass. The translucent colored decoration and thin glass construction are especially apparent when the ornament is illuminated from behind. It retains an  unmarked metal cap with traditional flat metal hanging loop , consistent with older German ornament construction. The flattened underside has an unusual irregular line visible within/through the glass. I have photographed this area closely for inspection. I do not see evidence that it represents a maker's signature or identifying mark and make no attribution based upon it. Approximate Measurements 2¾" tall, including hanging loop 2" wide across the upper rose-basket portion Condition Very good vintage condition considering its approximately 75+ years of age. Molded glass body appears intact with no cracks or missing sections observed. Beautifully preserved dimensional rose and basket-weave molding. Original-style metal cap and flat hanging loop remain in place. Expected age-related wear to the painted decoration and silvering, including scattered thinning, oxidation, small darkened areas and paint loss. Red/pink rose decoration shows areas of light age-related wear and variation. Gold/yellow trim and green decoration show scattered wear consistent with age. Pearly/silvered surfaces show natural mellowing and age-related variation. Please examine all photographs closely, as they form an important part of the condition description. The age-related changes are visible but do not diminish the wonderful dimensional character of this little ornament. It retains strong color and exceptionally appealing molded detail. Based upon its construction, hardware, decoration and comparison with documented German examples, I believe this ornament is  German and dates approximately to the late 1940s–early 1950s . No maker or country marking is present, so I am intentionally not attributing it to a specific German manufacturer or glassmaking town. A delightful example of the small figural glass ornaments produced in Germany during the early postwar period and an especially attractive piece for a collection of vintage German Christmas ornaments, mercury glass figurals, floral ornaments or early Christmas decorations.
