View Matching pair of Gouache or Pastel Paintings Boy & Mother Mid19th c.Brass Frames with current marketplace pricing, condition, product images and item details. The boy has styled brown hair, is wearing a high collar and has a distinctive bow tie. Both of these styles align with mid 19 th c. portrait styles. They are both double matted. Shown here we have a pair of mid-19. Shown here we have a pair of mid-19 th century gouache or pastel portraits of what may be a young boy and his mother. The frames and mats match and the style of painting is the same, which leaves one to assume that they were done at the same time. The lady has her hair parted in the center with loops of hair covering her ears and a lace veil or headpiece over her hair. The boy has styled brown hair, is wearing a high collar and has a distinctive bow tie. Both of these styles align with mid 19 th  c. portrait styles. They are both double matted. There is some minor damage to his backgound with the paper chipping some around his head, but not on his face (see last photo). Her painting has not chipped, but the mat has some cracks and a piece missing on the rim. There is some dent damage to the soft brass frames and we believe the glass has been replaced. The wooden backs are probably original, but they need to be removed and set properly for the long term. Please refer to the photos for the best determination of condition.  They each measure 8 ½” w. x 9 ½ t. Be sure to view all the photos. For some of our listings, the photos have a scroll down arrow.
