The vase has a rich cobalt-blue ground, a gracefully flared and scalloped rim, and two openwork dragon-form handles. The reverse is decorated with a wide raised floral-scroll band. Its aged gilt finish and detailed warrior scene give it wonderful Old World character. Beautiful vintage Japanese Satsuma-style vase featuring an elaborate hand-painted samurai scene surrounded by raised moriage scrollwork in turquoise, green, cream and gold. The vase has a rich cobalt-blue ground, a gracefully flared and scalloped rim, and two openwork dragon-form handles. The reverse is decorated with a wide raised floral-scroll band. Its aged gilt finish and detailed warrior scene give it wonderful Old World character. The underside bears a small hand-painted red mark, but the maker and exact age are unknown. Measurements: • Approximately 12” tall • Approximately 6” at the widest point Condition: Very good vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs found. The unglazed foot rim has expected firing roughness. There is age-related wear and loss to the gold detailing, along with scattered surface and glaze wear on the raised decoration and dragon-form handles.
