This is an iconic and very hard to find Napco ( National Potteries Co,) 1950s Mid-Century Modern "Pajama Pixie" or "Kneeling Pixie" ceramic figurine These whimsical, wide-eared "pajama series" pixies were sculpted with a distinct impish smile, side-glancing eyes, and large ears. They were manufactured in Japan and imported to the US. It features a cold-painted glaze over ceramic (which is why the paint details like the orange polka dots and the green/peach luster wash on the legs have worn slightly over time). These came in a highly collectible series featuring pixies in different pajama poses. This is the "kneeling/split-legged shelf sitter" pose, designed to sit flat on a nursery shelf or vanity. Because cold-paint and paper labels washed off easily in the 1950s, many surviving pieces are completely blank on the bottom today but remain instantly recognizable by this specific face mold!
