EXCELLENT STANLEY No.5 TYPE 17 1942 - 1945 SMOOTH SOLE PLANE. The plane works superb. Will make a superb user or addition to a collection. The sole was hand lapped & the edge's relieved to enhance planes performance. EXCELLENT STANLEY No.5 TYPE 17 1942 - 1945  SMOOTH SOLE PLANE   This type 17 has the frog adjusting screw. The type 17 has a superb casting in all my years of doing this I don't believe I have ever run across one with a crack in the mouth they are extremely durable work horses. The japanning on the body & frog was cleaned very well then given a coat of wax. All the hardware was cleaned and oiled. All screw holes cleaned and oiled. Tote and knob are excellent. Both have been waxed and polished several times. Both have original finish.  The cheeks were hand lapped. rail's were cleaned & smoothed out. The sole was hand lapped & the edge's relieved to enhance planes performance. All lapping is done on a large granite slab My opinion the only way to do it right. Frog seat and face lapped. Cutter was cleaned and lapped then sharpened. extremely sharp cut's excellent shavings. Cap iron was cleaned and lapped. Lever cap was cleaned then lapped at contact point.  The plane works superb.
