Original  1912 antique Colorado railroad postcard  depicting a steam-powered passenger train traveling through the dramatic  Canyon of the Grand  in Colorado. The front is captioned: “8696. Second Tunnel, Canon of the Grand, Colo.” The image captures a steam locomotive pulling passenger cars along a narrow railroad right-of-way between towering red-rock canyon walls and the river — an excellent early Western railroad scene. The postcard was mailed from  Denver, Colorado on April 2, 1912 , and retains its original green  1-cent Benjamin Franklin postage stamp , cancellation and handwritten correspondence. The historical name  Grand River  was used for the upper Colorado River until 1921, when Congress approved changing the river’s name to Colorado River throughout its course. A desirable subject for collectors of  Colorado railroad history, steam trains, railroad tunnels, Western Americana, early transportation and antique postcards . Condition: Used.
