An antique Japanese Satsuma porcelain vase, finely decorated in polychrome enamels and gilt, dating to the Meiji period .The vase is of classic baluster form with a wide shoulder, narrow neck, and flaring scalloped rim - a shape traditionally associated with ceremonial or temple vessels in late 19th-century export wares.                                                                                                                                                                        The body is adorned with detailed hand-painted scenes of rakan (arhats) - enlightened Buddhist figures.                                                                    A rare feature of this piece is the presence of two elephant-head handles, modeled with curved trunks, eyes, and ears, and highlighted in gold - a reference to the sacred white elephant in Buddhist symbolism.                                                                                                                                                          The vase stands on its original carved wooden base, which is included with the item. The glaze displays the fine craquelure typical of high-quality Satsuma ware. The underside bears a cartouche reading 薩摩製 ( Made in Satsuma), along with the Shimazu clan crest - confirming its origin in Kagoshima.
