This carving is shaped from a pine knot—the strongest and densest part of the pine tree, formed where a branch once grew. Pine knots are gathered only after a tree has fallen and the softer wood has naturally returned to the earth, sometimes decades later. No living trees are cut down. Time and the elements season each knot on the forest floor, preserving the woodland while deepening the character of the grain.
