Cast from a heavy white metal (likely spelter or pot metal), it features an original cold-painted black finish that has developed a wonderful, authentic patina over the decades. ​The piece has significant "honest wear" on the high points—such as the nose, ears, and tail—where the dark finish has worn away to reveal the silvery metal beneath.
