The “Hopi Villages” label, still affixed to the bowl, was first used in 1905 when the Hopi House had their grand opening. This label was used until the middle 1920s when the style of the label was modified in both the rim outline and the font style. This is a historical artifact from the Hopi House created by Fred Harvey on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Palm size Hopi Pottery bowl, hand coiled and pit fired in the traditional fashion. It has been hand painted with vegetative pigments also made by hand. This wonder piece of pottery was made by a Once Know Potter whose identity has been lost to time but their talent lives on in this bowl. This Hopi bowl dates from 1905 to 1925 making it approximately 100 to 120 years old. The “Hopi Villages” label, still affixed to the bowl, was first used in 1905 when the Hopi House had their grand opening. This label was used until the middle 1920s when the style of the label was modified in both the rim outline and the font style.     This piece has suffered some bumps and bruises over the years but each owner has worked to preserve this piece of history. You can see in the photographs there are scuffs, chips, and a very old repair but the bowl remains whole. Be sure to note the beautiful fire clouds that only come from being traditionally pit fired. We have been the custodian of this historical artifact for the past 13 years and now it is time for a new caretaker to watch over this bowl so that it can continue to represent the Hopi people for many years to come.   Please be sure to review all of the photos as they are part of the description and a testament to the condition of this item.
