The pile shows natural age-related thinning and wear, particularly across the face, chest, and inner limbs, exposing the woven backing fabric in places — entirely consistent with genuine age and honest use over nearly a century of life. A wonderfully characterful antique jointed teddy bear, dating to approximately the late 1920s to 1930s, almost certainly of German Thuringian manufacture. At 50 cm tall and 29 cm wide, he is a generous size and makes a striking display piece. He comes dressed in a vintage green silk damask jacket with a floral jacquard pattern. CONSTRUCTION AND MATERIALS Mohair: Golden honey mohair plush throughout. The pile shows natural age-related thinning and wear, particularly across the face, chest, and inner limbs, exposing the woven backing fabric in places — entirely consistent with genuine age and honest use over nearly a century of life. Head: Large, well-rounded head. Blunt, prominently protruding muzzle covered in closely clipped golden mohair. Hand-embroidered nose in black thread. Simple embroidered mouth in black thread. Five-piece disc-jointed construction. Eyes: Small round glass eyes with warm amber-red iris and black pupils — the classic period glass eye type. Both eyes present and secure. Ears: Small, rounded ears set wide apart on the sides of the head — a hallmark of the German bears of this period. Body: Fully jointed, five-way disc jointing. Stuffed firmly throughout with wood wool (excelsior). No squeaker present or expected for this style. Arms: Long, curved arms with slightly downward-curving paws. Paw pads are replacement fabric — a dark brown woven cloth — as is entirely typical of bears of this age that have been cared for over the decades. Legs: Long legs with oval feet. One foot pad is a period replacement in dark woven fabric, with visible but stable hand-stitched repair stitching. The left foot has a visible repair on the inner side — structurally sound and part of this bear's honest history. The other foot pad is also replacement material. Stitched claws present on paws.
