We hope you enjoy what you see & we hope to see you again soon!    Today I have up for consideration a Beautiful Taihei -  Fine China of Japan   Cup & saucer Set. This piece is in the "Springtime" Pattern. The Cup is 3-1/8" Tall and 3-3/8" in diameter at the Rim. The Saucer is 6" in Diameter. This set has a White background with Blue - Pink and Green Flowers on the Rim and is trimmed in Platinum.  This pattern was Discontinued only in production from 1975 -1985. The History of the Fine China Company       Backstamps that use the terms "Fine China Japan" together with rather general words like "Delux" are not Brand name China companies; they are "Secondary" companies. Secondary Backstamps are those used for the purpose of exporting, marketing & retail distribution rather than for the purpose of identifying a maker. The maker in these cases did not want to be identified either because there was no kudos in their own name (too small & unheard of) or they were too recognizable (Noritake). Noritake alone used over 400 different Backstamps, only some of them are obviously attributable to them. So unlike European Backstamps, particularly UK marks, Japanese Backstamps of the 20th Century are not placed on the wares in order to identify the maker & are factors of export, marketing & distribution. The big picture in Japan's secondary Backstamping is this: there were many hundred china decorating firms active in the early to middle of the 20th century.
