He is beautifully captured in mid-1860s style, clean-shaven with his thick hair styled in side-parted voluminous curls covering his ears. He is sharply dressed in formal civilian attire, wearing a dark heavy wool frock suit jacket with broad notched lapels, an open front revealing a contrasting light-colored waistcoat vest, a starched white dress collar, and a narrow dark cravat ribbon bow tie flatly secured at his throat. His ensemble is finished with contrasting light-colored daytime trousers, with the subject captured in a natural pose sitting back inside an ornate carved wood Victorian parlor chair featuring a detailed floral motif upper crest. The photograph is presented on its original thin card stock mount featuring period-correct sharp, square corners and a delicate double-line dark border framing the portrait face. The reverse side is entirely blank, providing an unvarnished and unaltered specimen from the peak of the mid-19th-century American photographic boom.
