These figures date to the 1930s and feature the characteristic hand-painted detailing found in pre-WWII German craftsmanship. The detail and bright colors are amazing for 90 year old nativity figures. Authenticity: Both figures are stamped with the "SH" mark on the back/base, identifying them as genuine Schueller & Hille pieces made in Germany.  The Schueller & Hille factory was located in Steinach, Thuringia, Germany . The Thuringia region—and specifically towns like Steinach and nearby Sonneberg—was the absolute heart of the historical German toy, doll, and holiday composition industry. During the pre-war era of the 1920s and 1930s, Steinach hosted a dense network of specialized workshops. These artisans perfected the molding of "marolin" and similar composition mixtures (a blend of plaster, papier-mâché, clay, and glue) to produce highly detailed, durable nativity figures and Christmas Putz elements before production landscapes shifted post-WWII. Design: One king is dressed in a light green cloak over a pink tunic, holding a golden vessel. The second king wears a rich burgundy cloak and a detailed gold-patterned vest, also bearing a gift.
