The key is stamped SARGENT vertically along the shank and T267 on the bow, retaining its original hollow barrel, distinctive cut bit and wonderfully aged silver-colored surface. The T267 stamping is a key or lock code rather than a date. This wonderfully unusual brooch began life as an authentic early 20th century Sargent hollow-barrel skeleton key and was later transformed into a striking piece of wearable found-object jewelry. The key is stamped SARGENT vertically along the shank and T267 on the bow, retaining its original hollow barrel, distinctive cut bit and wonderfully aged silver-colored surface. The key itself appears to date approximately to the 1920s–1940s, with circa 1930s being a reasonable estimate based on its construction, traditional bit configuration, simple bow and manufacturer marking. The T267 stamping is a key or lock code rather than a date. The coded Sargent key and its institutional-style construction make a possible hospital, asylum or other institutional association especially intriguing. Keys of this general type were used with older commercial and institutional locking systems, including buildings where controlled access was important. However, there is no documentation identifying the original lock or facility for this particular T267 key, so an asylum, hospital or prison origin should be considered possible rather than confirmed provenance. At some point later in its life, the original key was creatively transformed into jewelry. A long pin stem and safety clasp are mounted across the reverse, allowing the approximately 3-inch key to be worn horizontally as a dramatic brooch. The pin hardware appears later than the key itself, making this an authentic vintage Sargent key converted into jewelry rather than a reproduction key-shaped costume brooch. Its aged metal surface, cryptic T267 code and unmistakable old skeleton-key silhouette give it irresistible spooky gothic character. There is something wonderfully mysterious about wearing an old coded key whose original door has been lost to history. It is an especially compelling piece for gothic jewelry, dark academia, Halloween, oddities, industrial and found-object collections. Why You Will Be Obsessed With It Spooky gothic character with a mysterious institutional aesthetic. Possible asylum or hospital connection adds fascinating intrigue. Genuine old Sargent skeleton key transformed into wearable jewelry. The SARGENT manufacturer’s marking remains clearly visible. Original T267 key or lock code adds mystery and industrial character. An actual vintage key rather than a reproduction key motif. Perfect for gothic, dark academia, Halloween and oddities styling. A fantastic conversation piece with an unknown past. Condition Good vintage condition with authentic age and use wear throughout the original key, including surface scratches, finish wear, discoloration and areas of patina. These characteristics are consistent with an old working key and enhance its aged industrial appearance. The later pin mechanism is attached across the reverse and appears intact. Please review all photographs closely as they are an important part of the condition description.
