They would make a distinctive gift for a collector of Japanese ceramics. This is a lovely set of five Japanese porcelain plates in the celebrated Kakiemon tradition, each one hand-decorated with camellia blossoms in soft iron red, cobalt blue, and green enamels against a luminous milky-white ground. Each plate carries a blue script signature to the base, and the set comes with its original wooden storage box. The Kakiemon style was born in the porcelain town of Arita in the seventeenth century and became one of the most influential looks in ceramic history — so admired in Europe that Meissen, Chelsea, and other great houses copied it outright. Its hallmarks are all here: an asymmetric composition, jewel-like enamels, and a generous expanse of fine white porcelain left open to let the design breathe. This set comes from the estate of a United States diplomat who served in Japan, the kind of provenance that suggests pieces chosen with care and kept beautifully. At about 6.5 inches across, the plates are wonderfully versatile: dessert or tea sweets, small bites when entertaining, or simply displayed where the color can be enjoyed every day. They would make a distinctive gift for a collector of Japanese ceramics. The plates are unused and in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing, or utensil wear noted. The wooden box shows only light shelf wear. Packed with great care and shipped out quickly. Condition: Unused and in excellent condition — no chips, cracks, crazing, or utensil wear noted. Original wooden storage box included (light shelf wear).. Category: Antiques › Asian Antiques › Japan › Plates.
