The piece also retains its original Bethany Lowe Designs hang tag, copyright label, and Made in Philippines label — excellent details for the serious collector. The composition is spectacular. A wonderfully sinister old witch rides astride a towering skeletal cat, leaning forward while carrying a dimensional black lantern. Her wonderfully expressive hand-painted face features Bethany Lowe’s characteristic vintage folk-art styling, with a long crooked nose, rosy cheeks and mischievous expression. Her costume is loaded with detail: a tall distressed black witch’s hat with orange band and feather embellishment, flowing black robes with an intentionally aged finish, orange-and-black striped stockings, lace-up boots, and a rope tied around her waist. And then there’s the cat. The oversized skeletal feline is the centerpiece of the design, with a wonderfully exaggerated skull, enormous hollow eye sockets, individually sculpted teeth, exposed rib cage, long skeletal legs, oversized paws with black claws, and an extraordinary curled bony tail.
