An impressive display set and a wonderful example ofmid-century Japanese export Dragonware / Moriage porcelain. Beautiful vintage Japanese Moriage Dragonware 12-piece tea set , featuring dramatic raised moriage dragon decoration , hand-painted pastel accents, and gold detailing against a smoky gray/black ground. Pieces are marked “MADE IN JAPAN” on the underside. This is a particularly attractive assembled set consisting of: 4 teacups 4 matching saucers 4 small dessert/bread plates The four plates are all the same design and shape . The four cup-and-saucer sets are divided into two coordinating designs : 2 Fluted Cup & Saucer Sets: These cups have decorative fluted bases and a distinctive profile that widens noticeably beginning about halfway up the cup. Their matching saucers also have fluted/scalloped edges. 2 Mother-of-Pearl Cup & Saucer Sets: These have a more traditional, smoothly curved teacup profile without the pronounced midway taper. Both cups feature a beautiful iridescent mother-of-pearl/luster interior , and each has its matching saucer. All 12 pieces share the same striking Japanese Dragonware aesthetic, with raised dragons, cloud-like gray shading, pastel blue/pink accents and gold trim. The slight differences between the two cup-and-saucer designs make this an especially interesting group for a Dragonware collector. Condition: Vintage condition.
