It was handmade by my husband's grandmother, probably during the mid-1980s, and was given to us. Vintage 1980s Handmade Four Patch Tied Cutter Quilt – 68" x 80" This is a true family-made and family-used quilt with a known history. It was handmade by my husband's grandmother, probably during the mid-1980s, and was given to us. We used and enjoyed this quilt regularly for many years, and the extensive wear you see today is the result of a quilt that was genuinely used rather than simply stored away. The front is constructed in a traditional Four Patch design using an assortment of plaid, striped and small geometric-print fabrics separated by turquoise-blue sashing. The quilt is tied throughout with blue yarn. Interestingly, many of the patterned Four Patch fabrics remain in surprisingly good condition, while the solid blue sashing has deteriorated extensively. CONDITION: This quilt is very heavily worn and is being sold AS-IS for restoration, cutter, craft, textile study or repurposing purposes. There is extensive deterioration and fabric loss to the blue sashing throughout the front. Numerous areas have worn completely through, exposing the white batting underneath. There is substantial fraying, tearing, open fabric and general wear. The patterned Four Patch sections are considerably better preserved, with many attractive plaid, striped and geometric fabric squares remaining intact. The reverse side is also substantially better preserved than the front and retains the blue ties throughout. Please carefully enlarge and review all photographs, as they are an important part of the condition description. I have photographed the deterioration and exposed batting openly so there are no surprises for the buyer. Measures approximately 68" x 80". This would be an interesting project for someone who restores old quilts, a source of vintage Four Patch blocks and fabrics for a textile artist, or simply an authentic example of a handmade family utility quilt that was used for exactly what it was made for. I have not attempted to repair or restore it. I am currently working through a collection of old and vintage quilts and will be listing additional pieces as they are unfolded, photographed and researched. Many are wonderful old-fashioned, heavy quilts made for warmth and everyday use, with the character, repairs and imperfections that come with age.
