The Poor Clares, officially the Order of Saint Clare, originally referred to as the Order of Poor Ladies, and also known as the Clarisses or Clarissines. Reliquary with rare relic and  document (dated c.1868)  of: 'St. Clare of Assisi' Chiara Offreduccio, known as Clare of Assisi, is an Italian saint who was one of the first followers of Francis of Assisi. Inspired by the teachings of St. Francis, St. Clare founded the Order of Poor Ladies (Poor Clares) a monastic religious order for women in the Franciscan tradition. The Poor Clares, officially the Order of Saint Clare, originally referred to as the Order of Poor Ladies, and also known as the Clarisses or Clarissines, the Minoresses, the Franciscan Clarist Order, and the Second Order of Saint Francis, are members of an enclosed order of nuns in the Catholic Church. The reliquary stands 10 3/8" ht. Together with original document (dated c.1868) as shown.
