Mister Miracle #1 introduces Scott Free, the super escape artist raised on Apokolips, and his partner Oberon. The cover promises “THE MAKING OF A LEGEND!” and “KIRBY’S HERE!” — DC was not being subtle about the hire. The splash page credits read  “WRITTEN, DRAWN and EDITED by JACK KIRBY” , inked by  Vince Colletta . Opening story: “Murder Missile Trap!” The Fourth World books — Mister Miracle, New Gods, Forever People — are the foundation Darkseid and Apokolips were built on, and they have stayed in print and in adaptation ever since. AUTHENTICITY — VERIFIED ORIGINAL 1971 PRINTING The indicia is photographed and included. It reads “MISTER MIRACLE, No. 1, Mar.-April, 1971. Published bi-monthly by NATIONAL PERIODICAL PUBLICATIONS, INC., 2nd & Dickey Sts., Sparta, Ill.,” with Copyright © National Periodical Publications, Inc., 1971,  Jack Kirby as Editor  and Carmine Infantino as Editorial Director. There is no modern DC Comics copyright line anywhere.  Not a facsimile or reprint. CONDITION — FN/VF 7.0, my own grade, not professionally certified Photographed under both even light and raking (skim) light. Photo 2 is the honest one — please look at it before buying. Strengths:  -  Cover is largely flat.  Under raking light there is moderate surface wrinkling only, and some gloss is retained. -  All four corners are reasonably sharp , with slight blunting at the tips. -  Spine is tight and flat. No roll, no splits.  - Colors are strong throughout, particularly the orange and yellow field. - Staples intact. - Pages are cream to light tan and supple. -  No tears into the art. No water damage. No tape. No restoration. No writing, owner name, or date stamp. Flaws:  - Moderate cover surface wrinkling, visible under raking light - Light edge wear along the right edge - Slight corner tip blunting on all four corners - Light spine stress at the extremities - Normal tanning for 55-year-old newsprint An honest mid-grade copy of a genuine Kirby key, photographed so you can see exactly what you are getting.
